What the doctor gets

  • 7 dictation languages
  • Hindi and English in one sentence
  • ICD-10 coded diagnosis
  • Medicine safety check
  • Patient instructions in their language
  • Prints on your letterhead
  • Audit log on every save

What is Voice Rx?

Voice Rx is the dictation part of the Medikunj doctor consultation. The doctor speaks, the speech is transcribed as it is spoken, and AI places it into the selected prescription template: chief complaint, history, examination, vitals, diagnosis with ICD-10 code, medicines with frequency and duration, advice and follow-up. The doctor edits anything, runs a medicine safety check, finalizes, and prints the prescription on the hospital letterhead with a signature. It runs in the Medikunj Doctor Console on the doctor’s phone and in the browser.

The problem

The prescription is the part of the consultation that does not scale

The examination takes the time it takes. The writing is what stretches the day, and what gets cut when the waiting room is full.

  • 1

The doctor types in a language they do not speak

The consultation happens in Bengali, Hindi or Tamil. The record is typed in English, field by field, with the patient watching the top of a monitor. Eye contact is the first thing to go.

  • 2

Notes get finished after clinic, from memory

At 9 pm the details of the third patient of the morning are gone. What is typed is a summary of a summary, and the next doctor who reads it inherits the gaps.

  • 3

The slip the pharmacy cannot read, the advice the patient cannot recall

A handwritten line of shorthand is read by someone else, and the verbal advice is gone by the time the patient reaches the stairs. Both end in a phone call to the clinic.

How it works

From spoken words to a structured note in one tap

There is no special phrasing to learn. Speak the way you would dictate to a junior, then read the screen.

What the doctor says
“Forty-five year male, fever and body ache three days, throat congested. BP 130 by 85, temperature 101. Viral pharyngitis. Paracetamol 650 TDS five days, cetirizine at night, warm gargles, review after three days.”

What lands on the screen for review

Complaint
Fever and body ache, 3 days
Vitals
BP 130/85 mmHg · Temp 101°F
Examination
Throat congested
Diagnosis
Viral pharyngitis (J02.9)
Medicines
Paracetamol 650 mg, 1-1-1, 5 days
Cetirizine, 0-0-1, at night
Advice
Warm gargles
Follow-up
Review after 3 days

Stopping the microphone sends the transcript to be structured, so there is no extra button. If you prefer, type or paste the narrative and press Structure with AI. The raw transcript is saved with the consultation, so a later reader can see what was actually said next to what was recorded.

Languages

Dictate in the language you consult in

Seven choices sit next to the microphone: English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu.

English

A medical vocabulary model, with common Indian drug names and dose shorthand supplied so that paracetamol, pantoprazole, TDS and SOS come out as written.

Hindi

A multilingual model that follows Hindi and English mixed in the same sentence, which is how most consultations are actually spoken.

Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu

Each is transcribed in its own language setting rather than being treated as Hindi. For Bengali, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu, the drug-name list is applied as well, because doctors say English drug names in the middle of a regional sentence.

The same languages are available for the written instructions the patient takes home, in native script, and in Roman script for Bengali and Hindi.

Templates

One template drives the screen, the AI and the printout

A template is a list of sections. The same list is what the doctor edits, what the AI fills, and what prints. Change a section once and all three follow.

SOAP Notes

Chief complaint, subjective, vitals, examination, assessment with ICD-10, medications, advice, follow-up. The default; short and fast.

EMR problem-oriented format

Diagnosis first, then symptoms including negatives, vitals, examination by region, existing medicines, newly prescribed medicines, advice, next review and criteria for an earlier return.

General Physician OPD note

History of present illness, review of systems, past history, allergies, tobacco and alcohol use, examination, clinical reasoning, medicines, non-drug measures, red-flag warning signs.

Department templates. The template system already supports templates scoped to a department, so a gynaecology, paediatrics or cardiology template shows up only for those doctors. Today the three above ship; a department template is built with your doctors from the sections they already write on, then added once. Whatever the template, a chief complaint, a diagnosis and the medicine table are always present, so finalizing and reporting work the same everywhere.

This is an electronically generated prescription based on the consultation recorded above and is valid without a physical signature. It is issued for the named patient only, based on the information available at the time of consultation. Medicines must be taken strictly as directed; do not alter the dose or self-medicate. This prescription is not valid for the dispensing of narcotic or psychotropic substances. In case of an emergency, worsening symptoms, or any adverse reaction, seek immediate medical attention.

The A4 prescription as it prints, using the SOAP template. Sample hospital, patient and doctor; no real records.

Medicine, frequency, duration and instruction sit in separate columns, so the pharmacy reads a table and not a line of handwriting. When patient instructions are generated, they print in a boxed block under the plan, in the patient’s language.

The AI layer

Where the AI works, and where the doctor decides

Every prescription carries the doctor's name and registration number, so the question that matters is who checks what. Each step below states what the software does and what a person still confirms.

  • Dictation into text

Speech is transcribed as you talk. English uses a medical vocabulary model tuned with common Indian drug names and dosage shorthand such as TDS, BD, SOS and 1-0-1, so the words come out spelled the way a pharmacist expects.

Human in the loop: the transcript is plain text on screen. You can correct it before anything is structured.

  • Structuring into the template

The transcript becomes complaint, history, examination, vitals, diagnosis, medicines, lab orders, advice and follow-up, laid out in whichever template you selected. It is told never to invent a finding, vital or drug you did not say, and to use the unspecified ICD-10 code when you did not establish a cause.

Human in the loop: every field is editable and nothing is saved as final until you press Finalize.

  • Medicine safety check

On request, the medicine list is checked against the patient's age, sex, recorded allergies and the diagnosis for interactions, dose sanity, duplicate therapy and pregnancy, kidney or liver cautions. If there is nothing to raise it says so in one line.

Human in the loop: it is advisory. The doctor accepts, changes or ignores each flag.

  • Patient instructions

The diagnosis, medicines and advice are turned into short instructions in the patient's language and script, or in Roman letters for patients who speak a language but read English more easily.

Human in the loop: the doctor reads the instructions before they print.

Finalize is blocked until there is a chief complaint, a diagnosis and at least one medicine. Drafts are marked as drafts. Every draft and finalize is written to the audit log.

The Doctor Console

Built for the phone in the doctor’s hand

Voice Rx lives inside the Doctor Console, a separate app for doctors that installs from the browser and opens on Today: the day’s queue, the patients waiting, and the consultations that still need finalizing.

  • Today

The doctor's own queue. Tap a patient to open the consultation.

  • Consult

Dictation panel, template picker, editable sections, medicine safety check, patient instructions, Save Draft, Finalize, Print.

  • Patients

Each patient's earlier encounters, so the next visit starts with the last one open.

  • Calendar, Inbox, Rounds, Revenue

The rest of the doctor's day, in the same app.

Saving a draft moves the patient to in-progress in the clinic queue. Finalizing closes the visit and the token, so reception sees the same state the doctor does. Voice Rx is part of the Medikunj OPD workflow, not a separate tool to reconcile.

Fit

Who Voice Rx is for

The honest version.

Medikunj is for you if

  • You consult in a language other than the one you type in
  • You finish your notes after the clinic closes
  • You see enough patients a day that writing is the slow part
  • You want the pharmacy to stop phoning to ask what a line says
  • You want written instructions in the patient's own language
  • You want a record of what was said, not only what was typed

Give Medikunj a miss if

  • You need dictation that works with no internet at all
  • You expect a prescription signed with nobody reading it
  • You want the AI to choose the drug for you
  • You need a department template that already ships for your speciality
  • You would like a promised accuracy percentage
  • You enjoy typing
If the speciality template is the question, bring your current prescription format to the demo. A department template is the part we build with you.

Straight answers

What doctors ask before they trust it

Five questions that decide whether a doctor puts their registration number on AI-drafted text.

Will it get drug names wrong?

Sometimes, which is why the review step exists and why finalizing is blocked until a complaint, a diagnosis and at least one medicine are on the page. We do not publish an accuracy percentage because the number depends on the doctor, the accent and the room, and a figure measured in one clinic does not travel. What we can say is how it is built: a medical vocabulary model in English, a list of common Indian drug names passed to it, an instruction to leave out anything you did not say, and a doctor who reads the screen before the prescription exists.

Does dictation work when the internet is down?

No. Dictation streams to a speech service, so it needs a connection. When the connection drops you can still type the consultation into the same screen and use the template, the medicine table and the print. If your clinic has unreliable internet, say so on the demo call and we will show you exactly what keeps working.

Where does the patient's voice go?

The audio is sent to the speech service for transcription as you speak, using a short-lived access key issued by our server for that session, so the permanent key never reaches the doctor’s phone. The transcript is saved with the consultation when you save a draft or finalize. Patient identity is not part of the dictated text unless the doctor says it. Our DPDP Act checklist covers what a clinic should have in place for consent.

We are a cardiology / paediatrics / gynaecology practice. Can the template match our department?

Three templates ship today: SOAP Notes, an EMR problem-oriented format, and a General Physician OPD note. A template is one definition that drives the entry screen, the AI structuring and the printed page, and the system already supports templates scoped to a department, so a department template is added once and then appears only for that department’s doctors. None are shipped yet for individual specialities. Tell us the sections your department writes on and we build it with you.

Is Voice Rx an add-on?

No. Prescriptions with the AI scribe are in the Entry plan at ₹1,999/month, with the consultation EMR, reception, the queue and OPD billing. Prices exclude 18% GST, and annual billing saves 20%. See the plans.

Step by step

How a doctor writes a prescription by voice

The standard working procedure, from the patient walking in to the print.

  1. 1

    Open the consultation

From Today or the patient's page in the Doctor Console, tap the patient. The consultation opens with the patient's name, UHID, age and gender already in place.

  2. 2

Pick the language and tap the mic

Choose English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil or Telugu, then tap the microphone. A live level meter and the running transcript confirm it is listening.

  3. 3

    Speak the consultation

Dictate it the way you would tell a colleague: complaint, findings, vitals, diagnosis, medicines, advice, follow-up. A recorded doctor and patient conversation also works.

  4. 4

    Tap stop

Stopping dictation sends the transcript for structuring automatically. The transcript stays editable, and you can also type or paste into it and press Structure with AI.

  5. 5

    Review the structured note

Complaint, history, examination, vitals, diagnosis with ICD-10 code, medicines, advice and follow-up fill the template. Edit any field. The scribe only fills what you said.

  6. 6

    Run the medicine safety check

Check the list for interactions, dose problems, duplicate therapy and allergy conflicts. It flags; you decide.

  7. 7

Add patient instructions in the patient's language

Pick a language, including Roman-script Bengali or Hindi, and generate plain instructions that print on the prescription.

  8. 8

    Finalize and print

Finalize needs a chief complaint, a diagnosis and at least one medicine. The prescription prints on your letterhead with your signature, and the queue token closes.

FAQ

Voice prescription software: common questions

Medikunj Voice Rx is the voice dictation part of the Medikunj doctor consultation. The doctor speaks the consultation, the speech is transcribed live, and AI structures the transcript into complaint, history, examination, vitals, diagnosis with ICD-10 code, medicines, advice and follow-up inside the chosen prescription template. The doctor reviews and edits every field, then finalizes, and the prescription prints on the hospital's letterhead with the doctor's signature.

Voice prescription software lets a doctor speak the consultation instead of writing or typing it, and turns the speech into a structured prescription. The useful ones do three things beyond transcription: they put the words into the right fields, they cope with the doctor's language and drug names, and they leave the doctor in control of what is signed.

English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu. English uses a medical vocabulary model. Hindi uses a multilingual model that handles Hindi and English mixed in one sentence, which is how many Indian consultations are spoken. Patient instructions can be generated in the same languages, in native script, and in Roman script for Bengali and Hindi.

Yes. Voice Rx runs inside the Medikunj Doctor Console, which is built for the doctor's phone and installs from the browser. It also runs in the browser on a desktop or laptop in the consulting room.

No. The AI drafts; the doctor decides. Every field is editable, the scribe is instructed not to add anything that was not said, and an encounter cannot be finalized without a chief complaint, a diagnosis and at least one medicine. Only a finalized encounter is the record. Drafts are marked as drafts, and every save and finalize is written to the audit log.

Yes. The doctor picks a template before or after dictating: SOAP Notes, an EMR problem-oriented format, or a General Physician OPD note with review of systems, past history, allergies and red-flag warning signs. The AI fills the sections of whichever template is selected, and the printed prescription follows the same layout. Department-specific templates can be added on request.

On request, yes. The medicine safety check reviews the list against the patient's age, sex, recorded allergies and diagnosis, and flags interactions, dose problems, duplicate therapy and cautions in pregnancy, kidney or liver disease. It returns critical, warning or information-level flags, or a one-line all-clear. It is advisory and the doctor makes the call.

Yes. The camera icon on the same screen takes a photograph or PDF of a handwritten prescription, reads it, and fills the same structured fields with a confidence score. Anything it cannot read is listed rather than guessed, and the doctor confirms before it is saved.

No. Dictation needs an internet connection because the speech is transcribed by a speech service as it is spoken. Typing into the same consultation screen, the template and printing do not depend on dictation.

It is included in the Entry plan at ₹1,999/month alongside the consultation EMR, reception, the queue and OPD billing. Growth is ₹5,999/month and Professional is ₹14,999/month. Annual billing saves 20% and prices exclude 18% GST.

Medikunj is ABDM-compliant, built to the National Health Authority's Milestone M1, M2 and M3 specifications. Medikunj is not ABDM-certified and does not claim NHA certification.
